I was actually drafted, after I graduated from MTSU, in August of 1969. After completing flight school, I flew Hueys in Viet Nam from October of 1970 until October of 1971. After returning from Viet Nam, I joined the Army National Guard in 1980 where I flew Hueys, Cobras and BlackHawks until I retired as a CW5 in 2006. After 9/11, I retired from teaching at ORHS and worked full time for the National Guard at the flight facility at McGee Tyson Air Base. From August of 2004 until October of 2005, I was deployed to Iraq, where I flew BlackHawks. Two tours...almost 35 years from start to finish...It’s been a hoot!
Photo taken of one of our BlackHawks by a wingman. The water tower was painted with the Power T by the 101st ARBN prior to our arrival. The watertower was just south of the city of Mosul in northern Iraq.
